Kids Keeping in Touch through Montana Relay


Kids Keeping in Touch through Montana Relay is a fun, versatile hearing-loss awareness program for school-aged children. Through exposure to the program, students develop a greater awareness of and sensitivity to communication differences between hearing people and people who are deaf, hard of hearing, DeafBlind, or speech disabled. They also learn just how easy it is to make and receive a Montana Relay call.

The ideal enhancement to your curriculum
Featuring lesson plans, transparencies, handouts, the Let’s Make a Montana Relay Call video and more, Kids Keeping in Touch is the perfect enhancement to any curriculum. Although the program is geared toward children in grades three through five, the lesson plans can be easily adapted to other grade levels.

Kids Keeping in Touch is divided into the following four units:

  • The Human Body: includes lessons on the five senses, parts of the ear, key causes of hearing loss, hearing aids and cochlear implants
  • Society and Culture: features lessons on comparing the various cultures of individuals with hearing loss, as well as a firsthand account of a student with hearing loss
  • Technology and Communication: covers the history of sign language, using sign language to communicate, cued speech and making a Montana Relay call
  • Students to Students: a program that pairs hearing students and students who are deaf or hard of hearing and encourages them to call one another through Montana Relay
